The lack of safe recreational places in the neighbourhood for children and young people to go to after school and during the holidays was repeatedly identified by families as a top priority. So another member of staff working with a group of parents established a Saturday club, after-school football and a full timetable of activities and trips during school holidays.

Previous regeneration initiatives in the area tended to focus on projects for teenagers mainly benefitting boys. Action Lozells has sought to start with activities for primary age children and girls, with the aim to help them have a positive experience of life in the area outside of family and school relationships.
