A Local Conversations Programme from the People’s Health Trust
Action Lozells is a 3-year community organising project supported by a grant from the People’s Health Trust’s Local Conversations programme. It aims to train residents using community organising to act on local issues that impact on improving life in their area whilst developing them as leaders.
In July 2015, at a packed hall of residents the Action Lozells project was launched by a team of local people who live and work in the area. A year earlier, hundreds of residents took part in #ListenLozells a summer listening campaign to unearth people’s stories and their top issues for improving life in Lozells.
The launch set out an area plan to focus action on three key themes:
1) Safety & Environment
2) Money and Jobs
3) Children & Young People;
The programme invited residents to get involved. It also received public commitments to work with the project from the local Hospital Trust, Midland Heart (the largest Housing Association in the area), West Midlands Police and Birmingham City Council.
